Affiliate marketing has been sold as a “get rich quick” concept. Maybe you have experienced that and this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Before I explain this “modern” way to do affiliate marketing I want to share with you why most people fail online and how you can avoid it.
Most people fail online because of their lack of discipline and commitment to work on something for a long period of time UNTIL they succeed.
This is a long term game and the truth is that if you can’t follow a proven plan for at least 90 days you won’t succeed, if you can’t fix your bed in the morning you won’t succeed, if you can’t find 45 minutes a day to work out to stay healthy you won’t succeed.
What makes you think that if you can’t fix your bed in the morning or got to work out for 45 minutes a day you are going to make $5k or more a month?
This requires a lot of habits, commitment, overcoming a lot of obstacles.
Now, I want to share a different angle on how you can start earning money with affiliate marketing (and not only from commissions).
The 2 options you have as an Affiliate Marketer
As an affiliate marketer, you have basically 2 options of making $:
- The first and the traditional way is that you can provide value to people to achieve something and your affiliate offer can be the vehicle to achieve that end result.
- The second option is that you can provide a service yourself and your affiliate offer can be also the tool you use to provide that service.
If you do the first option, you will be providing massive value to people in whatever topic you prefer. It can be graphic design, marketing, websites, sales, math, fitness, etc.
It doesn’t really matter, the key there is that you help people in a way that they like, know, and trust you and when you recommend something, they buy it.
If you go with the second option (which is the one, I personally use and the one I recommend you do) you’ll be using two business models and those are selling your own service in combination with affiliate marketing.
Before I keep going, I want to tell you that I chose these 2 business models because both are by far the most beginner-friendly to start.
The most beginner-friendly business models to start making money online
Selling a service doesn’t have to be complicated. I used to build really simple WordPress websites and social media management as a service when I started.
Maybe you don’t know how to build websites but maybe you are a good copywriter, maybe you are good at playing the guitar, maybe you are good at making videos or you know how to cook really well.
The truth is that it doesn’t matter because there’s something that you know that other people want to learn or there’s something that you can do that other people need.
Affiliate marketing is also in my opinion a super beginner-friendly business model because you don’t need to worry about fulfillment, customer service, and all that stuff. You only need to get the sale and you earn a commission.
Now, you can connect both business models to sell a simple service AND sell your affiliate offer on top of that. This is the “modern” way to do affiliate marketing.
You can craft a service and for you to provide that service, you will use your affiliate offer as the tool you need to do that service (key).
Can you create a service to offer online and combine it with an affiliate marketing product or service?
The simple answer is, YES! And there are many different types of services you can sell online depending on your background, what you like and what are you passionate about.
Here is a real-life example…
I used to build websites for people, I used to tell people something like this “Hey, I can do your website and for having a website you need a hosting service. So use my affiliate link to buy that service that you need either ways to have your website”.
This has an advantage because as you will receive a commission you can offer your services for “free” to people.
You can tell them that you can provide your service for free if they buy the tool or product you are promoting with your affiliate link because you are going to get a commission. You can use that “free” hook to make your offer more attractive.
But guess what, you can take this offer to the next level!
As you’ll be providing a service, I strongly recommend you to actually charge for it AND also give your affiliate link to people.
By doing this you are going to receive commissions and get paid for your services.
Just doing quick math here let’s say you want to earn your first $1,000 and you promote a product that pays you $100 per sale. You would need to make 10 sales in order to achieve that right?
It is by no means impossible but watch this.
Let’s say you follow my advice and sell a simple service for just $400 (a very affordable price for a quality service if you ask me) and you promote the same $100 product. You would just need to make 2 sales in order to reach that $1,000 mark.
I’m not making these numbers up, those were my actual numbers, when I started taking that approach, I sold 2 really simple websites for $500 each plus my $100 commission in a short time.
By using this model, I made $1200 with just 2 sales!
I know those are not crazy numbers and I’m not trying to be one of those “gurus” out there. I’m just sharing with you what is possible if you take a slightly different approach.
I just say that if you try this approach you’ll be able to earn more money with fewer sales and you’ll be able to invest and scale your business faster.
Now, you might be thinking that you don’t have anything to offer as a service.
Believe me, you know something that other people want to know or you know how to do something that other people don’t that is valuable and you can charge for that.
